NEWS

NOVEMBER 12, 2020

Making a stride to post more lately. It's an interesting time in history. Thank you to everyone who voted and did their part to change the landscape of our political society. I am hopeful change is upon us. We must use our voices to keep the change going. Using my voice means making music I believe in that will contribute to our society and our spirits.

I am so excited to make this new project. I am really trying new things. Learning more about myself as a writer and taking Poetic Pop to the next level. Expect different genres and a more mature feel. We've already began work on "Us Fuse" which is a nod to the golden years of R&B. I wrote it for couples but there's a twist at the end. It's going to be a fun song to show my vocals on and the quality will be top notch.

Thank you for still streaming Departure 1989 (which you can buy on this site). We are now over 12,300 streams with Spotify and Apple Music Combined. Who? Nobody! No. is near 6.2K, Chamele-On Me is at 3.1K, and Fitamold 1.5K on Spotify. Incredible progress. The best is coming. I'm planning a concert for when things get back to normal of all the songs from Departure and the new material. I have a long term plan for the new project and can't wait to kick it into action in 2021. Stay tuned!

NOVEMBER 2, 2020

Hello everyone! It has been quite the year hasn't it? This pandemic has forced us all to be more creative with how we deal with life as whole. The slowing down has been good to rejuvenate, to prioritize, and to take a panoramic view of this thing we call life. I've lost so many people in my life this year and it's been tough but I know that God has a plan for all of us and I am determined to make the best out of everything. Rest in Peace to my aunt, uncle, and cousin I lost this year.

On a brighter note I'm back to making music. I have been recording raw demos and sending them to a new producer, Josh Florez. We met through Sound Better and he has been a really great collaborator so far. We will record vocals and all in January in Los Angeles (where I was supposed to visit earlier but that was postponed due to COVID). I am going to put out a new project next Spring and I am so excited to share my new ideas and a little of the light I can. It's going to be brighter than my debut EP and a bit more fun. I will keep you all updated.

As of today I am officially over 10,000 streams, with Spotify and Apple Music combined!! Who? Nobody! No. is leading the pack with 4,000 streams with Chamele-On Me and Fitamold not far behind. I couldn't imagine having this many streams with no help, not much promo at all, but I am thankful, and excited to see what's to come. Thank you all for streaming and buying Departure 1989.

JUNE 16, 2020

Hello, thank you all for checking out my site. I have been writing new songs and finding ways to cope during this unpredictable period. Black lives definitely matter and there is much change ahead for sure! I am looking forward to not going back to normal life but a life that benefits every person in our society. There are too many senseless killings going on and it truly saddens me. I am holding out for better.

I would like to thank Buzz Music for the fantastic feature and interview where I got to introduce myself to even more people. You can check out the interview/feature here and the spotlight here

If you're looking for an uplifting jam here's my song Who? Nobody! No. Nobody can do you like you!

APRIL 30, 2020

I hope everyone is staying encouraged through this dismal time. COVID has affected us all...harming family members and friends, losing jobs, affecting the economy, it's a lot. But I pray you all have found your light and are using your faith and common sense to get through this time. The best is coming, I promise. Cling to your friends and family and wish the best for everyone. You're going to make it through.

I am happy because I have crossed 2100 streams total on Spotify and Apple Music and 1000 plays on Soundcloud! I appreciate every play and it makes me feel great to know people are listening and appreciating the new tunes!

Check out this new great feature from the music blog Indie Band Guru! They reviewed Chamele-On Me and did a really great interview with me where I got to discuss my past, my songwriting process, and my future! You can Check it out here!

JANUARY 20, 2019

Hello everyone. The new year has started and I am grateful for everyone of you. Departure 1989 has amassed more than 1000 streams on Spotify and I am celebrating. As a celebration I have released a lyric video for Grieving on a Dancefloor you can check out below! The song is very important to me as I think it is important to face issues and sadness in life head-on. You cannot cover over it with good times, highs, and distractions, and think you are going to heal. Check out the song and let me know what you think.

DECEMBER 13, 2019

Life has been so eventful this past month! As the most indie of indie artists I celebrate every victory. In the first month or so the Departure 1989 EP has amassed more than 700 streams on Spotify and close to 300 streams on Apple Music with absolutely no promotion and no press until yesterday. I have even sold a number of physical copies in person which is awesome. I thank everyone who has supported so far. It's been great to get feedback and love for the project.

Also, I got to perform Chamele-On Me recently for the first time which was an interesting experience I will expand on in the Blog section. You live, you learn, you practice, and you grow! Shout out to Arts Unplugged Memphis for the opportunity! I even got my first review of Chamele-On Me from A&R Factory, A UK blog which I appreciate! You can check it out here.

I have been to New York and given some copies to Michael Strahan, Keke Palmer, and Sara Haines when I visited Strahan, Sara, and Keke and I even got to sing for a bit on a commercial break which was fun. I always enjoy when I go on the show. I should sing more when I return. I got to see a bunch of Broadway shows which were amazing. Support live theater people! Next year should be full of surprises and opportunity and I'm ecstatic to share it with you. Thank you for visiting.

It's a cause for celebration! Departure 1989 is out now! This is such a surreal moment for me. Writing songs since around ten years old, I've always put together tracklistings and all but never thought I would actually release music....but here I am. God is so great and He provides for sure. I am so ready to get this material out there to you all. It's going to be a journey but I am ready to take it.

You can listen to Departure 1989 on streaming sites such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and more. Also check it out on Itunes, Amazon, and other stores. Let me know your thoughts. I should have physical copies soon. Also check out Genius, I'm officially verified there and a ton of other things in the works!

Love, SP
